Marriage records from July 1948 till date are maintained by the Missouri Bureau of Vital Records of the Department of Health & Senior Services (DHSS). Marriage records before this date are maintained by the Offices of Recorders of Deeds in the counties where the marriage approvals were first provided.

Marriage licenses can be obtained from the Recorder of Deeds Office in the county where the license was obtained. Divorce decrees can be obtained from the Circuit Clerk in the county where the divorce was granted. Only Certified Statements Relating to Marriage or Divorce can be obtained from the Bureau of Vital Records in Jefferson City.

MISSOURI STATE ARCHIVES Guide to African American History County Records on Microfilm The Missouri State Archives maintains a significant collection of county and municipal records on microfilm. Records from all 114 Missouri counties were filmed by the Missouri State Archives, as part of an ongoing Judicial Records Microfilming Project.
